German right-wing terrorism News Journal 11:

Suspected Far-Right Terrorism Ring Leads to 7 Arrests in Germany

Currently, in Germany, there has been an increase in the presence of far right-wing groups. One of these groups is the group called Revolution Chemnitz. Recently seven of its members have been arrested for their connection and contribution to the group. Once recognized as a criminal group, the group is now seen as a terrorist group after evidence came forward showing plans to acquire semiautomatic weapons. It is believed that the group had intentions to move forward to attack immigrant civilians in Germany after the recent death of a German man who was stabbed intervening in a fight between Syrian immigrants. Political leaders in Germany have disputed on this rise in Right-wing violence. German Chancellor Merkel has denounced the violence while others like the head of the countries domestic intelligence agency challenge the validity of the extremist group attacks.
This article connects directly to the subject of terrorism with how it talks about a right-wing group in Germany. It also brings up the topic in a country that is not traditionally associated with terrorism. Terrorism is most often connected to countries in the middle east or even with the United States. European terrorist groups are often not as recognized as other more famous terrorists. This is what makes the article much more interesting because of how it brings light to internal problems German faces with terrorism. This article is also able to connect to how in the United States some political leaders struggle to outwardly oppose right-wing radical groups. This connection to the issues dealt with in the United States will allow for the class to better relate to the article.
