Turkey's Erdogan Slams Venezuela Sanctions, Maduro Defends Gold Exportshttps://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2018/12/03/business/03reuters-venezuela-turkey-erdogan.html

In this article, it discusses the recent sanctions that have been placed on Venezuela gold trade by the United States. The US accused officials in Venezuela of corruption, violating human rights, and even triggering an economic meltdown. These sanctions that have been placed on Venezuela have also been criticized by the Turkish President who feels that the US is not punishing the corrupt officials but the whole country with the sanctions. Venezuela is currently suffering from a recession and so the country has had a huge shortage of food and medicating. The US has been subject to the blame for this because of the economic war it has waged on the country.

This article relates to food shortage because of how they are experiencing a food shortage as a result of the sanctions the US has put on the country. While traditionally food shortages are attributed to growing populations or a disaster of some kind, this shortage resulted from the sanctions. The sanctions limit the countries highest export and so the country is struggling to trade and move itself out of the recession the country has found itself in. To combat this the country must make changes politically in order to convince the US to remove the sanctions. They will then need to work on improving their economy of time in order to get out of the recession and to better supply the county with food.
