As Australia’s Cities Get Crowded, Its Leader Targets Immigration

In this article, it talks about the issue Austria is facing with its growing population. In Australia, leaders are blaming immigrants for its growing population. They feel that in the countries major urban areas schools, roads, and public transportation are overcrowded. This view is even backed by the countries Prime Minister. And now has purposed plans to lower the number of immigrants let into the country every year. This years migration program is already at an all-time low, a ten percent decrease from last year, and is expected to go down even further in the following years. This pushback on immigration and demonetization of immigrants is especially interesting because of how "about half of Australians were born overseas or have one parent who was born overseas". Australia economy has also heavily relied on a large immigrant workforce for labor and skill. Australian citizens are pretty split on how they view the immigration rates. Around half support, the current rate or what want more, while the others believe that the cap should be cut even further. It will be interesting to see how the countries economy will react to the changing immigration policy in the future.

This article relates to the idea of overpopulation because of how Australia is currently experiencing this issue to some extent. The country is choosing to deal with this issue by lowering immigration rates instead of building more infrastructure to support the growing population. By doing this it will change the way that foreigners view the country and cause some economic issues in the future if the country is not about to find a substitute for their immigrant workforce.
