Factors like climate change and depletion of land have caused issues with food production and now the ability for food production is as limited as ever. It is believed that humans have surpassed earth carrying capacity in terms of land and water. Currently, about 820 million people are malnourished and so with the population on continuing to grow the problems with food shortages are becoming more apparent. The global demand for food is expecting to jump by around half by the year 2050. Increasing farming output beyond current levels can cause permanent damage to the earth and so it is unsure what will need to be done.

This article relates to the topic of natural resources because food is considered to be a natural resource. Currently, the world is struggling to produce enough food to satisfy the growing population and so with natural resources being demanded so heavily, the future is unknown how a solution will fix this problem. While currently there is no conflict over food yet, it is very possible that in the future this will arise because of its necessity to human life. This will put pressure to find a solution to help produce more natural resources in order to meet the growing demand
